“Oberlin Filter Ltd decided to become 2020 Club members to support a very important part
of County Durham and the North East’s History,” explains Jaine Whitty of Oberlin Filter.
She continues, “Durham Cathedral is not only important in terms of its history but also
because of the education, community, heritage and culture locally. As a company we believe
its extremely important to support local industry and therefore it seemed a perfect step to
show our support for our local history and culture.”
The 2020 Club supports Durham Cathedral’s public campaign, Foundation 2020. The
campaign is seeking to raise £1million to contribute to a £10million endowment fund. This
fund will then be used to pay for the routine repair work of the cathedral every year,
forever. The National Heritage Lottery Fund has also provided a grant of a further £1million
on a £1 for £1 matched funding basis. This means the Cathedral can receive double what is
given by businesses who support the campaign until we reach the £1million target.
Oberlin Filter Ltd operates across Europe and North America to ‘make filtration systems
that really work’ for a worldwide audience. Matthew Kirk, speaking on behalf of Durham
Cathedral, has said “To have a company like Oberlin Filter support Foundation 2020 is a
huge honour; future generations will owe a lot to their generosity. We look forward to
seeing this relationship blossom as time goes on.”
