Applications are now open for the Advanced Machinery and Productivity Institute’s (AMPI) Innovation for Machinery (I4M) funding programme. This initiative supports small and medium-sized manufacturers in Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire to adopt advanced machinery, accelerate innovation and strengthen UK manufacturing.

What is I4M?
I4M brings together businesses and leading academic experts to deliver practical innovation and measurable impact. In 2025, the programme supported 14 projects with local universities and national institutions. These projects ranged from improving machine tools to introducing autonomous systems—helping companies boost productivity, improve precision and future-proof their operations.

What support is available?
Eligible businesses can access up to £50,000 of funded support, including:

  • Academic expertise for collaborative research and development
  • Technical assistance
  • Opportunities to fast-track innovation

I4M supports projects focused on:

  • Machine tool development
  • Robotics and automation integration
  • AI-driven control systems and predictive maintenance

Manufacturers in Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire with ideas to advance machinery for manufacturing are encouraged to apply. This is a chance to adopt new technologies that will transform operations and help position the UK as a global leader in advanced manufacturing.
