CERATIZIT presents new high-volume rough milling cutter
CERATIZIT is expanding its range of high-performance machining solutions to include the new AluLine rough milling cutter, which was specially developed for high-volume machining of aluminium. The carbide rough milling cutter combines innovative geometry with the latest substrate technology and sets new standards in material removal, process security and sustainability.
Requirements on modern milling tools continue to rise. This is especially evident in industries such as aerospace and electric mobility, which are on the lookout for economic ways of machining complex aluminium components with high walls and deep cavities. The AluLine rough milling cutter from CERATIZIT was designed to tackle these exact challenges, as its geometry was selected for ultimate stability and maximum material removal rates without compromising on process security.
“We designed our AluLine rough milling cutter to use the machine’s power to the full – but the tool still boasts extremely quiet running properties and maximum chip evacuation,” explains Michael Wucher, Global Technical Product Manager for carbide milling cutters at CERATIZIT. “The milling cutter really shows its full potential when working on components that tend to vibrate during machining.”
Key technological features for maximum performance
The AluLine rough milling cutter is based on a specially developed round cord roughing profile with three cutting edges that deliver a uniform cut and very quiet running characteristics. The chip spaces are polished to ensure optimal chip evacuation even when making deep cuts. The internal coolant supply with Y-outlets in the chip flutes ensures targeted cooling for the cutting zone, effectively prevents chip deposits and optimises chip removal from the cutting zone.
Sustainability plus efficiency
In addition to its technical performance, the AluLine rough milling cutter stands out as a sustainable solution. The upGRADE carbide substrate CT-GS20Y used in the tool has a verifiable product carbon footprint (PCF), underlining CERATIZIT’s commitment to using fewer resources in production. Made from up to 99% recycled carbide, it offers an exceptional combination of toughness and wear resistance.
The HA shank guarantees top balancing characteristics – a crucial factor at high speeds. But CERATIZIT also kept an eye on the price-performance ratio to ensure the milling cutter would be an economically attractive solution for serial and custom manufacturers. The AluLine rough milling cutter is out now in diameters from 16 to 25 mm, with two length options per diameter. Custom versions can be manufactured upon request.
Proven performance under real-life conditions
The AluLine rough milling cutter demonstrated its impressive capabilities on high-performance machines during extensive field testing. It achieved cutting depths of up to 25 mm at cutting speeds of over 2,200 m/min and feeds of 17,000 mm/min – while maintaining a consistently high level of process stability with low power consumption. The results show that in addition to maximum removal rates, this milling cutter is also designed for a long service life under demanding conditions.
CERATIZIT AluLine – all-rounder with a specialist pedigree
Thanks to the addition of the AluLine, the CERATIZIT portfolio offers a powerful series of tools that were developed specifically for high-volume machining of aluminium and non-ferrous metals. The tools boast an optimised geometry and ultra-smooth, wear-resistant DLC coating that creates the conditions for maximum service lives and excellent chip evacuation, even during dry machining. Comprising around 2,500 items, the range includes end mills and radius cutters with diameters of 0.2 mm with the AluLine – Micro up to more than 20 mm, in various numbers of cutting edges and length options.
The AluLine is ideal for industries such as aerospace, automotive and med-tech as well as general engineering that require ultimate precision and efficiency when machining non-ferrous metals. This makes the AluLine the ultimate solution for efficient, process-secure and sustainable machining – in practically any application.
